Slam Dunk for Diabetes ends after 21 years.
To our Slam Dunk for Diabetes Family,
For more than two decades, Slam Dunk has set the standard for diabetes education. Kids and their families realize they can live the lives they want while managing diabetes. Campers play fearlessly, share feelings, and conquer challenges. “When I started coming to Slam Dunk for Diabetes, I learned I could do anything” is a common reaction.
This camp is magic thanks to the love, devotion and hard work of numerous people. I want to express my deepest gratitude to the medical staff, coaches and volunteers. It has been a privilege to have worked with all of you, and I am grateful for what we have accomplished together. I cherish the unforgettable moments of fun and achievement we’ve shared.
A special thanks to Dennis Guerrero, Slam Dunk administrative coordinator, for your friendship, tireless effort, and problem-solving skills. To Leslie Clifford, many thanks for your fund raising and social media support.
To my medical staff coordinators Teresa Alesia, Nancy Todora, and Jody Gosian, you are the reason why more than 1,000 kids have safely enjoyed their camp experiences. YOU ARE THE BEST, and I am forever grateful.
To my coaches Phil Gary, Anthony Wofford and Ed Leonard, you taught our kids so much more than basketball skills. You inspire our SD kids to work hard and know there are no limits to what they can achieve.
And finally, to my dear friend and colleague Chris Beebe, thank you for your dedication and vision. From fund raising to one-of-a-kind educational videos, your contributions have made a significant impact on the lives of the SD kids and families.
Thank you all for your unwavering commitment to making SD the success it has been. And always remember “there is magic on the courts of Slam Dunk.
